Canadian creators nominated for 2025 Harvey Awards
The nominees for the 2025 Harvey Awards were recently announced. Among the many talented creators are the following Canadian creators:
– Chester Brown (with director Sook-Yin Lee) for his graphic novel Paying For It (from Drawn & Quarterly) upon which the motion picture is based
– Darcy Van Poelgeest (with Ian Bertram) for Precious Metal: From the World of Little Bird (from Image Comics) in the Book of the Year category
– Guy Delisle (with translators Helge Dascher and Rob Aspinall) for Muybridge (from Drawn & Quarterly) in the Best International Book category
– Whitney Gardner for Free Piano (Not Haunted) (from Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers) in the Best Children’s Book category
The annual gala celebrating the Harvey Awards will be livestreamed during 2025 New York Comic Con taking place this October.
Ryan North wins Aurora Award
Locus Magazine announced the winners of the 2025 Aurora Awards, the annual event that recognizes science fiction and fantasy works by Canadian creators. Ryan North, along with illustrator Chris Fenoglio won in the Best Graphic Novel/Comic for Star Trek Lower Decks: Warp Your Own Way, published by IDW.
Ricky Lima nominated for Ignatz award
In press release, Small Press Expo announced the nominees for the 2025 Ignatz Awards. Ricky Lima, with Daniele Aquilani, was nominated in the category of Promising New Talent for Undergrowth from Top Shelf Productions. The Ignatz Awards were created to outstanding achievement in comics and cartooning.
Stephanie Cooke and Whitney Gardner announce more of The RACC Pack
In Instagram post, Stephanie Cooke posted news about a third book in The RACC Pack graphic novel series. The new title The Bins Breakout is slated for publication in April 2026 by Simon & Schuster Children’s. The book is available for pre-order now.
Jim Zub, Stacy King and Andrew Wheeler to pen new D&D Young Adventurer’s Guide
Dungeons and Dragons Fan wrote that The Warriors & Wizards Compendium, written by Jim Zub, Stacy King and Andrew Wheeler, is planned for release by Penguin Random House on November 5. The article mentions that the 272-page book is the latest entry in the ‘Dungeons & Dragons Young Adventurer’s Guide’ series designs for middle school readers.
CBC Kids Reads 2025 long list released
CBC Books announced the CBC Kids Reads 2025 longlist was announced this week. Among the many noteworthy creators is Kate Beaton for Shark Girl. In an Instagram post, the Captain Canuck 50th Anniversary Tour, featuring creator Richard Comely, was announced with a hectic scheduled set to occur between August 13 and September 27. Richard will be signing books and meeting with fans in comic shops located in Calgary, Moose Jaw, Regina, Hamilton, Waterloo, London, Kingston, Duluth, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Vancouver.
