Jeff Lemire announces new Black Hammer series
In his regular newsletter, Jeff Lemire revealed work on a new Black Hammer series to be announced at San Diego Comic Con. Additionally, Jeff mentioned that he’s creating a Black Hammer #1 Facsimile Edition. More details to come.

Aaron Navrady to hold graphic novel creation workshop
In conjunction with When Worlds Collide 2026, Aaron Navrady will present ‘Practice Makes Perseverance: Steps To Creating A Graphic Novel’ on Friday August 14 at 3 pm. The presentation is slated to occur at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Calgary, Alberta.

Brenda Mabel Reid announces comic book launch for Going Boobless
In an Instagram post, Brenda Mable Reid plans her comic book launch at Downtown Comics in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on July 26. The event will feature a talk with Brenda hosted by Nancy Pedri about the new short-story comic book Going Boobless.

James Edward Clark hints about more Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre
In a recent podcast interview, James Edward Clark spoke about the behind-the-scenes creation of the hit comic book series The Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre. He also offered hints about even more fan-favourite action with his co-creator Fred Kennedy. Stay tuned.

2026 Harvey Awards nominations
The 2026 Harvey Awards nominations were announced this week. Notable Canadians in the running include:
– Tony Cliff for Practical Defence Against Piracy (webcomic) in the Digital Book of the Year category
– Faith Erin Hicks for Inbetweens (published by First Second) in the Best Children’s Book category
– Cassandra Calin for The New Girl: First Crush (published by Scholastic) in the Best Children’s Book category
– Mariko Tamaki, with Nicole Goux, for This Place Kills Me (published by Abrams Fanfare) in the Best Young Adult Book category
– Lee Lai for Cannon (published by Drawn & Quarterly) in the Book of the Year category
Winners of the Harvey Awards will be announced at New York Comic Con on October 9.

Conundrum Press creators at Sappyfest Zine Fair
Creators published by Conundrum Press will exhibit at Sappyfest Zine Fair on August 1 in Sackville, New Brunswick. Attendees can see and buy books from Sofia Alarcon for Endsickness, Brandon Nicks for On The Border, and Zeta Paul for Borderline. Rosena Fung nominated for Dwayne McDuffie Award
The finalists for the 11th Annual Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics was announced this week including Rosena Fung for Age 16 (published by Annick Press). The award, which focuses attention on diverse creators and inclusive content, will be handed out on Friday, July 24 pm at San Diego Comic Con.

Ari Gross maps out future issues of Upkeep
While chatting in a podcast interview, Ari Gross offered his future plans for his Kickstarter-backed comic book series Upkeep. He says that, if all goes well, readers can expect more of the Upkeep story for next potential 20 years.
