2025 Ringo Award nominees announced
The 2025 Ringo Award nominees were revealed this week with the awards to be announced at this year’s Baltimore Comic Con on October 18 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill and fun of comics. Among the many comic book professionals are the following Canadian, or Canadian related nominees:
Mikaël in the Best Cartoonist (Writer and Artist) category
Francine Delgado in the Best Cover Artist category
Jim Zub, Richard Pace, Card Nord, Nick Marinkovich plus others for The Savage Sword of Conan (published by Titan Comics) in the Best Anthology category
Cassandra Calin for The New Girl: A Graphic Novel (published by Scholastic) in the Best Kids or Graphic Novel category
Bryan Lee O’Malley for Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary Hardcover Box Set (published by Oni Press) in the Best Presentation in Design category

The Becka talks about horror in comics books
CBC Arts interviewed The Becka about how she uses horror in comic books, including Gehenna: Death Valley, as a means of therapy. The article features her responses about influential artists, her first comic book, why horror is so appealing, favourite horror films and books, and more.

New Hobtown Mystery in the works
Fangoria announced that Kris Bertin and Alexander Forbes will produce another entry in the Hobtown Mystery series. The article revealed the title of the new graphic to be Secret of the Saucer along with artwork plus the sale date of November 25.

Michael Cherkas to discuss Red Harvest
In an Instagram post, Michael Cherkas announced that he will be speaking at the UCWLC Museum/St. Josephat Cathedral in Edmonton, Alberta on September 18 at 7 pm. The discussion, hosted by the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada Museum, will also attendees to listen to Michael’s insight about the Holodomor as the subject of his graphic novel Red Harvest.

Richard Van Camp is prepping for his next graphic novel
Cabin Radio interviewed Richard Van Camp about plans underway to create his follow up graphic novel to Wheetago War: Roth. The article indicates that Richard and his team launched a Kickstarter campaign for the deluxe hardcover of his current graphic novel designed to raise funds for the follow up currently titled Angels with Antlers.

Fred Kennedy takes to writing for Samurai Pizza Cats
Comics Beat reported that Fred Kennedy will be the writer for Samurai Pizza Cats — a middle grade manga adaptation of the nineties animated TV show. The article also mentions that Lorenzo Di Santo will illustrate the series planned to go on sale April 7, 2026.

New book sharing lists on Bluesky
In a Bluesky post, Bibliome Club announced a new way to creative collaborative bookshelves, discover new books, and build reading communities with friends on the Bluesky app. The announcement indicated that the new offering is open source and decentralized via ATPronto.

Jeff Lemire to pen new JSA in the Golden Age
ComicBook.com wrote that Jeff Lemire has announced plans to write the new JSA: Year One for DC Comics along with artist Gavin Guidry. According to the article, JSA #13 to 18 will focus on the Year One storyline.

Chip Zdarsky to bring Captain America to present day
Marvel.com published an article about the second arc of Captain America #6 written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Valerio Schiti that will introduce new super-soldiers from different countries. The write-up, which includes artwork of the new characters, indicates the issue will go on sale in December.

Sanya Anwar in the spotlight
CBC Arts interviewed Sanya Anwar about how textiles have influenced her artistic process.
