Eisners Awards recognize Canadian creators
As an integral part of the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, the Eisner Awards ceremony helped celebrate comic book and graphic novel creators and supporters. Canadians figured prominently as noted in the following:

  • J. Bone won in the Best Short Story category for his work with the late Kevin Conroy on ‘Finding Batman ‘ in DC Pride 2022
  • Chip Zdarsky won in the Best New Series category for Public Domain
  • Kate Beaton won in the Best Writer/Artist category and Best Graphic Memoir category for Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands
  • The late Darwyn Cooke won in the Best Graphic Album-Reprint category for Parker: The Martini Edition

Canadians join the team behind new Conan comic book series
AIPT Comics announced that at SDCC 2023, Titan Comics outlined the list of creators lined up for the new Savage Sword of Conan comic book series. Cary Nord and Richard Pace will join others to produce the ongoing series slated to hit shelves sometime in 2024. Urban light show highlights North American Indigenous Games
CBC News reported that Tara Audibert of Moxy Fox Studio working with students in the Animation and Graphics Program at the New Brunswick Community College in Miramachi to create the artwork for the lightshow to highlight the North American Indigenous Games. The light show included art, photography, music and voices of the athletes. Non-profit group in the spotlight for Toronto’s diverse comic book library
TVO Today reported on the Canadian Comics Open Library in Toronto that features over 1500 books including horror, speculative fiction, autobiography, and fiction. As a non-profit, the library runs primarily on donations, grants, library membership fees, community partnerships and fundraising. Kate Beaton makes the cut for five graphics you need to read

Marvel offers more insight about new Ms. Marvel comic book at SDCC
Marvel reported on its announcement made at SDCC 2023 about the forthcoming Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant. The news comes with the showcase of the main covers for the first three issues and an all-new trailer showcasing the new series co-written Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel) along with artist Adam Gorham.
