Canadian creators win Eisner Awards
At San Diego Comic Con, the 2026 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were handed out and Canadians were front and centre including:
Mariko Tamaki in the Best Publication for Teens category AND Best Writer category with This Place Kills Me (published by Abrams Fanfare) along with Nicole Goux
Tony Cliff in the Best Digital Comics category with Practical Defense Against Piracy
Jamal Campbell in the Best Writer/Artist category with Zatanna (published by DC Comics)

Joy San creates magazine to promote Brampton artists
Led by creator Joy San, Brampton Indie Comics & Zines (BICZ) is publishing Inside Brampton: A Collaborative Alphabet Zine Project. The ongoing publication is designed to promote comic arts, writers and creators from Brampton, Ontario through the zine project. Listen to previous podcast interview with Joy San.

Adam Policzer announces The House Across the Street
Winnipeg-based Dirty Water Comics published The House Across the Street by Adam Policzer. The graphic memoir poignantly captures Adam’s memories as a child survivor of the Holocaust and was the inspiration for a new documentary that premiered at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival.

Dan Schoening teams up with Weird Al for Batman/Superman one-shot special
DC Comics announced Batman/Superman/Weird Al: World’s Weirdest #1 one-shot 40-page comic book illustrated by Dan Shoeing and written by Weird Al plus Mark Waid. The story focuses on a very unique threat that took over Mr. Mxyzptlk’s fifth dimension home universe that only Weird Al can help defeat. Riley Rossmo has been tapped to provide a variant cover.

Lucky Devil Comics plans for more of The Plague
While promoting their latest issue of The Plague in a recent podcast interview, Styles Pacheco and Nicky C. spoke about continuing the series and other books from Lucky Devil Comics. Styles hinted that he’s been writing plenty of scripts to continue The Plague comic book for years to come.

Bryan Lee O’Malley to return with more Scott Pilgrim
Announced at San Diego Comic Con 2026, Oni Press will published Scott Pilgrim EX: Dave of Metal Scott #1 this fall. The new on-shot comic book from Bryan Lee O’Malley offers a prequel story to the hit Scott Pilgrim EX video game. The new comic book is slated for sale on November 11.

Chip and Ramón celebrate Stillwater series on Prime
This week, Amazon MGM Studio confirmed that Stillwater, a horror drama based on the Skybound graphic novel by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez has a green light to start production. The project will start with an eight-episode order led by Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray.

Michael Walsh signs up for new Jonah Hex comic book
Announced at San Diego Comic Con 2026, DC Comics announced that Michael Walsh will write and draw Jonah Hex and The Shadows of Death. While details are still pending, the comic book is planned for an October release. Stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, revisit a previous podcast conversation with Michael Walsh.

Thomas-Louis Cote offers behind-the-scenes making of new Belgium comics exhibit
Quebec BD coordinator Thomas-Louis Cote spoke in a podcast interview about the current year-long comic art exhibit taking place Belgium. Attendees of the Belgium exhibit, according to Thomas-Louis, have the unique opportunity to learn about the comic book creation process using art and pages from well-known Quebec-based comic book artists.
