The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) exists to promote the breadth and diversity of comics and what is considered comics as a legitimate medium of literary and artistic worth. TCAF seek to promote the creators of these works in their broad and diverse voices for the betterment of the medium of comics and to reach as broad an audience as possible for them. TCAF is held from May 11 to 12 at the Toronto Reference Library.

Don Sparrow is a professional illustrator who trained at the University of Saskatchewan, before moving on to Canada’s prestigious Sheridan College, where he completed a post-graduate course in Advanced Illustration. Don’s work is a humourous blend of retro warmth with a modern sensibility, lending a timeless feel to his illustration. In his spare time, Don writes plays, plays baseball and reads comics. He lives in his prairie home with his loving wife, Heather, and their sparkling children.

Set in the nostalgia-laden landscape of the Canadian prairie in the 1990s, Does Your Mother Know? is a coming-of-age tale that follows the journey of an awkward teenager navigating the complexities of personal identity, poverty, first dates, and the bittersweet nuances of love and loss. With a poignant yet sweetly sarcastic narrative tone, the story captures the unintended comedy of adolescent wonder and confusion. Readers will find themselves transported to a world where dial-up internet, mixtapes, and corded telephones reign supreme, evoking a sense of familiarity and nostalgia for the late 1990s era.
