Newfoundland and Labrador stores get creative about comic book business
CBC News interviewed a variety of comic book store owners in Newfoundland and Labrador as a result of Diamond Distribution going bankrupt in January 2025. The article includes comments from Kerri Neil, owner of Downtown Comics in St. John’s, plus David Stephens, sales clerk with Timemasters, and Black Panel press Andrew Benteau.

CBC Radio wrote an article about the impact that Scholastic has had on Canadian kids over the years. From classroom book catalogues to book fairs, Scholastic continues to have a lasting effect on children across Canada by offering a variety of exciting books including graphic novels.

Conundrum Press announces Dana Belcourt as mini-comic bursary winner
In an Instagram post, Conundrum Press announced that the 2026 winner of the Mini-Comic Bursary for Black and Indigenous Creators is Dana Belcourt. The jury chose Dana’s submission from a work in progress called Gnaw with more information available on the Conundrum Press website.

Comic-Con International calls for Spirit of of Comics Retailer Award nominations
On the main website, Comic-Con International announced its accepting nominations for the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award. Previously won by Guelph, Ontario’s The Dragon, the award honours retailers from around the world to acknowledge the important role that comics retailers play in the industry. Nominations close March 31 at 11:59 pm PDT.

Paige Walshe announces more Froggy adventures
In an Instagram post, Paige Walshe revealed that the picture book Froggy: Autumn Antics! will go on sale this July. The announcement calls the story to be published by Flying Eye Books as ‘a cozy new adventure filled with ghosts, heists, fun and friends’.

Canadian creators on 2025 best-selling graphic novels for kids list
Bleeding Cool reported on the 24 kids graphic novel that sold over 100,000 copies in 2025. Notable Canadian creators on the list include:
– Mike Holmes (illustrator) for Escaping Peril (Wings of Fire Graphic Novel #8) and The Dragonet Prophecy (Wings of Fire Graphic Novel #1) published by Scholastic/Graphix
– Cassandra Cain for The New Girl published by Scholastic/Graphix
