Jerome Cabanatan is hosting a beginner-friendly crash course on the work of comics in conjunction with Lakay Kusina. Scheduled to take place on Sep. 27 in Toronto, Ontario, the event will welcome those who want to creator their own comics by learning the basics from the creator himself. MCAF announces Bédélys applications
In an Instagram post, the Montreal Comic Arts Festival announced a call for applications for the Bédélys Independent Awards. Entrants who have a 2025 self-published comic can apply until January 4, 2026.

David Bishop announced new hockey book
On his LinkedIn post, David Bishop revealed that his new book Amazing Hockey Stories: Auston Matthews is now available from Scholastic. Written by Lorna Schultz Nicholson and illustrated by David, the new book offers a sneak peak about how Auston came to be a hockey sensation.

Richard Comely continues Captain Canuck tour
The Winnipeg Sun reported on Richard Comely’s Captain Canuck tour during a stop in Winnipeg, where it all began. According to the article, Richard will be appear today from 3 pm to 6 pm at 204 Comics in Winnipeg to sign comics, sketch for fans and hold a draw for an original piece of artwork.

Ray Fawkes talks up The Phantom
Comics Beat interviewed Ray Fawkes and his fellow creators in advance of Mad Caves’ The Phantom comic book series. In the article, Ray provides insight about how he became involved in writing the series, his history with the pulp character, the challenges of writing a long-standing and well-known character, how he collaborated with the other creators on the title, inspiration for writing the stories, and more.

TCAF returns in 2026
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival revealed in an Instagram post that the annual event will return in June 2026 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (former Maple Leaf Gardens). While exact festival dates are yet to be announced along with exhibitor application details, plans are underway for the gathering that will welcome fellow creators, fans and other attendees to enjoy the exhibition, panels, presentations and more. Stay tuned.

Zac Thompson chats up Cemetery Kids Run Rabid
Comics Beat interviewed Zac Thompson about his newest offering Cemetery Kids Run Rabid, illustrated by Daniel Irizarri.
