In celebration of the comic book creators exhibiting at the 2022 Toronto Comic Arts Festival, here’s my chat with Leisl Adams about her new graphic novel Batter Royale. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. And the podcast is also available on YouTube. Please like and subscribe to that video channel.

Leisl is a director, storyboard artist and illustrator based in Ottawa, Ontario. She has done work for Arcana Comics, Simon and Shuster, Rubicon Publishing and her self published works On The Edge and Not My Show. Batter Royale is her debut YA graphic novel from Amulet (Abrams) books.

The story of Batter Royale goes like this: “When seventeen-year-old small-town waitress Rose impresses a famous food critic, she and her best friend, Fred, find themselves thrust into the tough world of competitive baking. The contest is an intense ten days of bizarre challenges, and the competition is cutthroat. Some competitors are willing to lie, cheat, and sabotage their way to the top. Rose may be in over her head, but she is determined to show that she can become a top chef. Batter Royale is a fish-out-of-water style romantic comedy about climbing out of the circumstances you’re in and making your dreams come true.”
