Here’s my chat with Brett D. Huson about his new book The Raven Mother. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. And the podcast is also available on YouTube. Please like and subscribe to that video channel.

Brett is from the Gitxsan Nation of the Northwest Interior of British Columbia but currently resides in Winnipeg, MB. Growing up in this strong matrilineal society, Brett developed a passion for the culture, land and politics of his people, and a desire to share their knowledge and stories. Brett has worked in the film and television industry for over 13 years and is a volunteer board member for organizations such as Ka Ni Kanichihk and sākihiwē festival. Brett also works with the Prairie Climate Centre to connect western science and Indigenous Knowledges. His current book is The Raven Mother illustrated by Natasha Donovan.

The award-winning ‘Mothers of Xsan’ series is Brett’s first series of books and part of a larger vision to share the worlds of the Gitxsan Nation. The Raven Mother, the sixth book in the series, “transports young readers to Northwestern British Columbia, where they will learn about the traditions of the Gitxsan, the lives of ravens and why these acrobatic flyers are so important to their ecosystem. Follow along as Nox Gaak, the raven mother, teaches her chicks what they need to survive with the help of her flock.”
