Johnny Cassidy’s top 10 go-to comic books and graphic novels

True North Country Comics Presents Johnny Cassidy's top 10 go-to #ComicBooks and graphic novels

True North Country Comics presents Johnny Cassidy’s top 10 go-to comic books and graphic novels.

Johnny is a writer/creator from Ontario. He’s the founder of the philanthropic sales platform ‘Comics Altruism’ and has been a comic book enthusiast from birth. His first project is Sasquatch Klondike.

Here’s Johnny’s top 10 go-to comic books and graphic novels:

10.  Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan
“This title combines imagination and nostalgia with a quirky overall tone and some off-the-wall plot devices.”

9.  Warlock #1-15 by Jim Starlin
“If this is available as a single compiled tome, it’s a great glimpse at a number of different creators as it kept getting passed around but the star of the show was Jim Starlin.”

8.  Batgirl by Gail Simone and others
“Barbara Gordon had been given special attention before with The Killing Joke and others, but this run brought in a whole new dimension and vitality to the character.”

7. The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley
“There’s a reason this one is on pretty much every list.  There are actually several reasons, but most of us know them and they needn’t be mentioned.”

6. Captain Marvel by Kelly Sue DeConnick and others
“Kelly Sue DeConnick was the best possible writer to bring some extra depth and tone to Carol Danvers as a staple in the Marvel Universe.”

5.  Kraven’s Last Hunt by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck
“No list would be complete without some kind of Spider-Man, and no Spider-Man list is complete without a top mention of Kraven’s Last Hunt.”

4. Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson and others
“The character G. Willow Wilson brought to life a magnetic character and ushers in a whole new audience into comic books with a positive, inclusive message and motif.”

3. Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons
“Much like the The Dark Knight Returns, there’s a reason for its legendary status and nothing much needs to be added to the library of columns and articles written on this title.”

2. Royal City by Jeff Lemire
“Everything that made Sweet Tooth and Essex County phenomenal, like the reflective writing style and knowledge of the human condition, are here in this lesser-known title.”

1. Animosity by Marguerite Bennett and Rafael De Latorre
“Scathing social commentary and, presumably, a firm love of animals brought it into being but it kept its momentum with solid character development and consistently top-notch writing and imagination.”
