Jeff is a teacher and illustrator from Saskatchewan.  He works with a selection of talented artists to tell the stories of  the Adventures of Auroraman.  He’s also led the creation of a network of Canadian Indie creators – The Canadian Comic Book Alliance ( — where these creators can help spread the word of each others work while opening the doors to collaborations and team-ups.

During our chat, Jeff talked about the origin of the Adventures of Auroraman, and described the great pool of comic book talent in Saskatchewan. He talked about his comic book influences including Jim Lee plus James Robinson and Tony Harris which led to the inspiration from Starman. He also talked about how he integrates comic books into his teaching curriculum especially when working with reluctant readers. Jeff also talked about how he overcame a major setback in his creation process with very positive results.

Here’s some of the current news about Canadian comic book creators and supporters.

Animation Express reported that Jed Mackay has been chosen to write the upcoming Marvel Comics Black Cat series. Scheduled for publication this summer, the book will feature artwork by Travel Foreman. The title is described as “High octane heists, climactic chases and twist after twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat like a cat on a perch.” You can read more at

Black Girl Nerds interviewed artist Jamal Campbell and writer David Walker about their work with Brian Michael Bendis on the new title Naomi from DC Comics under the Wonder Comics imprint. Jamal was quoted as saying: “Right now there are no real titles that reflect the uniqueness of the Black experience.  Naomi’s journey to find out who she is, reflects a common journey for us all with the benefit of being well written and drawn.  This is a great title for all ages so run out and get a copy of both issues.” You can read more at
