WhitCAF 2018 promotes comic book reading and comic book creators

Here’s my chat with Mallory Dawson about the Whitby Comic Art Festival 2018 taking place November 17 in Whitby, Ontario. Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts.


Mallory is the Community Engagement Librarian at the Whitby Public Library in Whitby, Ontario.

During our chat, Mallory talked about the origin of the Whitby Comic Art Festival and why it matters to young and old alike. Mallory also explained the benefit of having comic books in libraries and how the books lead readers to other types of literature.

Here’s some of the current news about Canadian comic book creators and supporters.

CBC Radio reported on a conversation with Todd McFarlane about how Stan Lee changed his life when he was 16. He reminisced about meeting the comic book legend while on vacation in Florida and spending 7 hours just talking. You can read more on the CBC.ca/radio site

The Chronicle Herald published an article about the passing of Stan Lee featuring quotes from Marvel writer Jed Mackay and others, plus an illustration of Spider-Man on top of the Halifax Town Clock by Maritime artist Nick Bradshaw. You can read more at TheChronicleHerald.ca

The Telegram published an interview with Toronto’s Paul Soles who voiced Peter Parker and Spider-Man for the animated series from 1967 to 1970. He claimed that that he never considered himself a superhero or thought about he would sound but he understood how teenager would feel being an outsider amongst his peers.
