Remembrance Day 2021

November 11 in Canada is Remembrance Day – a day to pay tribute to the men and women who served in support of this country.

2021 makes the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Day Poppy in Canada. The Great War Veterans Association (later unified with other groups in 1925 as the Canadian Legion) adopted the Poppy, inspired by John McCrae’s ‘In Flanders Fields’ as the flower of Remembrance.

True North Country Comics honours those who have fallen by highlighting a few interviews with subjects that touch upon stories focused on Canada’s war efforts.

Comic historian Dennis Slater discussed the impact of Canadian comics from the prairies in recognition of the 80th anniversary of the ‘Canadian Whites’ based on the March 1941 publication of Better Comics volume one #1.
