Meredith is a comic book writer for some of the comic industry’s most iconic female hereoines including her best-selling run on Wonder Woman as well as Catwoman for DC Comics plus Grimm Fairy Tales and The Little Mermaid for Zenecope.
During our chat, Meredith talked about her current Kickstarter project, The Book of Ruth. She also reflected on her work on Age of Conan: Valeria, The Light Princess and Rose. Meredith offered some insightful tips and hints for writers getting into the business plus how to interact with artists to create successful projects.

Here’s some of the current news about Canadian comic book creators and supporters.
Newsarama reported on Achewood moving from Dark Horse to Oni Press in a new collection edited by Christopher Butcher. The co-founder of Toronto Comic Arts Festival and recently honoured by France as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Christopher discussed how he got involved in the project. He said: “I’ve been a fan of Achewood since the first year, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss heading to the site to look for new strips every day or two … It’s an absolute trip to get to read all of Achewood chronologically as I help to put this volume together, and I think fans old and new are going to love it just as much as I do when it arrives in print next summer.”

Global News announced that Fearless Fred Kennedy has returned to the podcast arena with Issue Zero. The Q107 radio host will once again explore all things geeky in his bi-weekly podcast on the Curious Cast network. Comic Book Daily published an article by Ivan Kocmarek about Canadian war time comics as an early version of a kids social network. In his write up, Ivan offers a look at wartime Canadian comics not as the slabbed decimal commodities or the collector’s trophies that comics have become in the last couple of decades, but as the disposable documents and remaindered or forgotten artifacts of a key period in Canadian history and identity. He also examines how these comics worked at engaging Canadian kids during this difficult time of the country’s military service overseas.

CBC Arts published a profile and interview with Maria Nguyen who’s illustrated for Marvel, DC and manga publications. When asked to comment on her work versus peoples’ first impressions of her, Maria said: “I think if I were just to walk down the street, I don’t think anyone would realize what my career is. And I think that’s the beauty of being an illustrator. I honestly don’t think anyone could really tell, because they come from such a diverse walk of life — same with a lot of other creative industries.”
