Luc is a graphic designer by trade and is also the founder and editor of Pow Pow Press along with the French language sister company Éditions Pow Pow. Pow Pow Press was created to translate some of the French language books for a wider audience.
During our chat, Luc talked about some of this newest published books including The Pineapples of Wrath. He also explained the process for selecting particular books for publishing in Canada. Luc suggested that creators be available and promote themselves wherever possible to gain attention from publishers.

Here’s some of the current news about Canadian comic book creators and supporters.
Publisher’s Weekly interviewed Mariko Tamaki at BookCon 2019 who was promoting her new book Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass. As part of the interview Mariko was asked about what it would take to revitalize the superhero genre of comic books. She was quoted as saying: “If I have the space with a character to tell a story without having to connect to a character’s existing complex history, I try to focus on the parts of the character I really connect to. I try to bring in things that inspire me that also fit with the character.”

Character Media held a question and answer session with Aminder Dhaliwal about her work in animation and her most recent work Woman World. When asked about how she got into illustration, Aminder was quoted as saying: “I’ve been into drawing for as long as I can remember. It’s been a life-long hobby. I think a lot of illustrators identify with “being the artist” in a group of friends in middle school and high school. My art was the scope of my identity back then, it was what I felt I offered my friends.”

Continuing with BookCon 2019, Publisher’s Weekly interviewed Faith Erin Hicks who was promoting her illustrated work on Pumpkin Heads with writer Rainbow Rowell. When asked about the best aspect of writing for young adults, Faith was quoted as saying: “Younger readers, both kids and teens, are a challenging audience. They are smart and won’t sugarcoat things for you when they don’t like a book you’ve made. But when they love something, there’s no audience with a greater passion.”

The Globe and Mail wrote about five D-Day books for history buffs on the 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion of France. Notable on the list is Two Generals by Scott Chantler, based on the diary of his grandfather, Law Chantler, a lieutenant in the Highland Light Infantry of Canada. The article claims: “Chantler’s illustrations, evocative framing and story structuring give Two Generals a poignant immediacy that text alone can’t equal.”
