Here’s some of the current news about Canadian comic book creators and supporters.

The Verge published an article offering an oral history of webcomics. The article outlines the phases that webcomics took as they spun out of the demise of the newspaper comic strips and the rise of the Internet in popularity. Ryan North, noted for Dinosaur Comics was quoted as saying: “I cut little T. rex silhouettes out of construction paper and put them up around campus with the URL on them. I’m very tall, so I could jump and get them up where the janitorial staff couldn’t reach. When I heard people in the cafeteria talking about Dinosaur Comics, I thought I was being pranked. I guess the way I got early readers was… vandalism?”

Canada.com interviewed Calgary writer Teresa Wong about her new graphic novel Dear Scarlet. The book offers Teresa’s personal insight into postpartum depression and her struggles coping with early days of motherboard. Teresa was quoted as saying: “Motherhood is a truly life-changing experience, and with that can come really intense feelings that can turn negative pretty easily. I think if you’re aware and you’re not caught off guard, then it takes away some of that shame and loneliness around it.” You can read more at O.Canada.com
