Report on the Hockey Noir Panel at TCAF 2018

True North Country Comics reports on the Hockey Noir panel at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2018

Here’s my report on a panel at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2018 about ‘Hockey Noir’. It’s an opera with a comic book setting and it’s been described as “set in the 1950s, the classic hockey rivalry between Toronto and Montreal takes centre stage with a side of organized crime. Love, lust, scandal, blood, betrayal – in sudden death, who wins and who loses is determined not by fate but by the final shot.”

Moderated by Ian Boothby, the YA author of ‘Sparks’, the panel included comic book writer Cecil Castelucci  and illustrator Kymberlyn Porter.

The panel focused on the how Cecil collaborated with Kymberlyn as well as composer André Ristic to create the unique opera experience. The discussion included insights into the making of the visually compelling opera with details about how the elements of hockey, comic books and opera joined forces to come together for this endeavour.

Thanks to Cecil, Kymberlyn and Ian for the panel presentation.
