Earlier this year I spoke with Fred Kennedy who conveyed his preference for the Surface Book as his tool of choice for comic book creation. Frances Manapul has also been noted as a fan of the Surface Book.
Now Microsoft has introduced a new update to the perfect companion to the Surface Book — the new Surface Pen. According to Microsoft, “writing and drawing on your new Surface Pro with the new Surface Pen feels like writing or drawing on paper, with features such as tilt for shading, increased pressure sensitivity levels and faster inking.”
The new Surface Pen offers users more accurate inking with fast, fluid and accurate digital results. Microsoft has increased the sensitivity by quadrupling the levels of pressure sensitivity to 4,096 and reducing the activation force. The result is designed to make inking easier and more natural.
Artists can tilt the pen, similar to a graphite pencil, to shade sketches, using one of three different tips. Microsoft has deployed custom silicon in both the pen and device offering instant, fluid and accurate inking. Microsoft also claims that the new Surface Pen more than doubles the accuracy of the previous version with the assertion that the latency so low it is “virtually imperceptible to the human eye” improving performance to be twice as responsive as competitive solutions.
Designed to feel like a real pen, creators can choose from four colors — Platinum, Black, Burgundy and Cobalt Blue — that coordinate with the Surface Pro.
